  Stages In the books "Integral Psychology" and "Sex, Ecology, Spirituality" by Ken Wilber (largely based on the work of several developmental psychologists), our basic values, sense of self-identity, ethics, and spirituality concerning our very subjective and intersubjective experiences unfold in stages.
